The Tennessee State Library and Archives has several collections of funeral home records.  Sometimes these records include more information than is found in death records and obituaries, and can often be used to cover time periods in which death was not registered by the state.  Information varies from business to business.

In most cases, microfilmed materials and books are available for interlibrary loan.

The Library and Archives will, for a fee, search microfilmed funeral home records which have been indexed or alphabetically arranged. If a microfilm collection has not been indexed or alphabetically arranged, then the records will not be searched by the Library and Archives staff.  The entries on this web page will indicate if an index is available for a particular microfilm collection, or if the records have been alphabetically arranged.  If a record is found, we can send you a copy of the record. See more about ordering records.
