Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett would like to announce a decrease in service fees for documents filed online with the Division of Business Services.
Beginning Tuesday, December 15, 2015, customers using a credit card or debit card will be charged a 2.35 percent service fee. This flat rate will significantly decrease current service fees for most customers.
A new payment method is also being added which will allow customers to use an electronic check, also known as an eCheck, to pay for certain online filings, including Annual Reports, Motor Vehicle Temporary Liens and Uniform Commercial Code filings or searches. The service fee for eCheck transactions will be 95 cents per transaction.
“These changes will save our customers, the taxpayers, money time and time again. Online service fees will be cheaper while the Division of Business Services saves tax dollars through lower processing costs,” Secretary Hargett said. “This is part of our mission to operate as cost-effectively as possible.”
In addition to the decreased service fees for online transactions, the division will also utilize a new merchant service provider to process payments completed by customers online. The service fee will be retained by the merchant service provider while the filing fee is paid to the Division of Business Services. The fees will appear as two separate transactions on customers’ credit card, debit card or financial institution statements.
