NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Forrest School students and staff were presented with the prestigious Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level Award by helping to register 100 percent of the 17 eligible students to vote. This is the first Anne Dallas Dudley Award for Forrest School. Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, alongside Senator Joey Hensley and Representative Todd Warner, personally presented the award to the school Friday.

“It was my pleasure to present Forrest School students and staff the Gold Level Award for understanding the power they hold in becoming a registered voter in Tennessee,” said Secretary Hargett. “These students have demonstrated to the rest of the community that in Tennessee it is easy to register to vote.”

Secretary Hargett also recognized Marshall County Administrator of Elections Andrew Roberts, for his support of the successful registration drive. These awards are also made possible by the important work of Sen. Hensley and Rep. Warner, who help to expand efforts to increase civic engagement across their districts.

The Anne Dallas Dudley Awards are open to all Tennessee public, charter/private school, and home school associations. This award is named in honor of renowned Tennessee suffragist Anne Dallas Dudley, who helped lead the successful effort to ratify the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. On Aug. 18, 1920, Tennessee became the 36th and final state needed to give women the right to vote.
