NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, joined by Senator Paul Rose and Representative Chris Hurt, presented the prestigious Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level Award to Halls High School in Lauderdale County for the first time. Senior student ambassadors helped to register 100 percent of their 30 eligible students to vote.
“I am impressed by the seniors at Halls High School. These students understand the power they hold in being a registered voter,” said Secretary Hargett. “Their commitment demonstrates to other Tennesseans how easy it is to register to vote in our great state.” Halls High School Principal Amy Morgan, Marketing Teacher Kelly Noel, and School Superintendent Melinda Hutcherson collaborated to endure the success of the efforts.
The Anne Dallas Dudley Awards are open to all Tennessee public, charter/private school, and home school associations. This award is named in honor of renowned Tennessee suffragist Anne Dallas Dudley, who helped lead the successful effort to ratify the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. On Aug. 18, 1920, Tennessee became the 36th and final state needed to give women the right to vote.
