NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Raleigh-Egypt High School won the prestigious Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level Award for the second consecutive year, for helping to register 100 percent of their121 eligible students to vote. Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett presented the award Thursday to several senior students, as well as Principal Dr. Jamie Green, Assistant Principal Dr.Kirkland Hamilton, Vice Principal Mr. Kevin Conley, and Shelby County Administrator of Elections Commissioner Patricia Possel.
“Students and staff at Raleigh-Egypt continue to understand the power they hold in becoming registered voters here in Tennessee,” said Secretary Hargett. “Their commitment to civic leadership and teamwork at every turn can make meaningful impacts in encouraging voter participation amongst their peers.”
Special thanks were given to Raleigh-Egypt School Librarian Dr. Kimberly Bean who submitted the school for their second recognition, and Shelby County Administrator of Elections Linda Phillips, who continues to increase civic engagement.
The Anne Dallas Dudley Awards are open to all Tennessee public, charter/private school, and home school associations. This award is named in honor of renowned Tennessee suffragist Anne Dallas Dudley, who helped lead the successful effort to ratify the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. On Aug. 18, 1920, Tennessee became the 36th and final state needed to give women the right to vote.
