NASHVILLE, Tenn. — For the third consecutive year, Harriman High School has been recognized with the Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level Award. Senator Ken Yager presented the award to students and staff at a ceremony Thursday morning. The Anne Dallas Dudley Award recognizes the outstanding achievement of registering 100 percent of the eligible students.
“The hard work displayed by Harriman High students and faculty continues to impress the community and the state,” said Secretary Hargett. “To achieve Gold Level status for the third time in a row is a tremendous achievement.”
The Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level Award represents the highest distinction in Tennessee’s student voter registration initiative, honoring schools that demonstrate the highest commitment to voter registration. Principal Ms. Chasity Lowery and U.S. History Teacher Ms. Deb Stout (also a member of the Secretary’s Civic Engagement Committee) accepted the award on the behalf of the school. Student ambassadors Brayden Gann and Mia Stacey were commended for their hard work in the initiative by Christian Cervantes, Civics Education Coordinator with the Secretary of State’s office.
Senator Yager, as well as Representative Monty Fritts, are strong advocates for civic engagement, not only in their districts, but across the state of Tennessee. Roane County Administrator of Elections Charles Holiway provided support throughout the registration initiative.
The Anne Dallas Dudley Awards program is open to Tennessee public, charter, private and homeschool associations. It is named for Anne Dallas Dudley, who helped lead the successful effort to ratify the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, granting women the right to vote. Tennessee became the 36th and final state to ratify the amendment on Aug. 18, 1920.
