Stories from the 16th State: Creating Classroom Engagement with Local History

During the 225th anniversary of Tennessee Statehood, the Tennessee State Library and Archives invites Tennessee teachers to attend a workshop exploring our state's history. From September 2021- June 2022, we'll travel the state offering this workshop series to educators at locations across the state.

Focusing on the use of primary sources found in the collection of the Library & Archives, this workshop will examine Tennessee history topics from the 4th, 5th, 8th, and High School American History curriculum standards for social studies. The workshop will conclude with teacher participants working together to create a primary source activity for use in the classroom.

Teacher participants will receive lunch and six hours of professional development credit.

Please note: All scheduled dates and locations are subject to change due to the on-going pandemic. The wearing of masks is strongly encouraged at all workshops. Some facilities where workshops are located may also have a mask requirement.

To Register: Dates and locations are listed below. To register, simply click on the city you are interested in and then click the green "Register" button.

This workshop series is funded in part by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), a division of the National Archives. Learn more about NHPRC at https://www.archives.gov/nhprc.
