How to Vote


In-Person Voting

  • Early voting begins Wednesday, October 16, and lasts until Thursday, October 31.
  • Election Day is Tuesday, November 5.
  • Voting locations and hours for each county are available on the GoVoteTN app.
  • Registered Tennessee voters are required to present a Tennessee or federally issued photo ID. Voters are not required to present their paper voter registration card to cast their ballot.
  • The Tennessee Department of Safety has deployed mobile units to issue replacement photo IDs. Temporary replacement photo IDs issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security are valid photo IDs for in-person voting. Absentee Voting

  • Absentee ballot requests should be submitted as soon as possible but no later than Tuesday, October 29.
  • If you are displaced and are outside your county, you can request an absentee ballot to be delivered to your new location.
  • Relief workers from other Tennessee counties who are working in affected areas outside their home counties also qualify. Contact your home county election commission to request a ballot.
  • If you have already requested an absentee ballot and it has been lost or you need it sent to a new location, contact your county election commission to spoil your current ballot and reissue a ballot.

Carter

  • Two Election Day polling places have temporarily been changed and voters in the impacted areas will vote at their temporary location on Election Day.  Notices are being sent to local media and letters are being mailed to the impacted voters.
    • Hampton High School (Tiger Valley Precinct) will vote at Hampton Elementary.
    • Elk Mill VFD (Elk Mills Precinct) will vote at Little Milligan Elementary

Cocke

  • The Election Commission has moved to 157 Western Plaza Drive, Newport, TN 37821.
  • The new mailing address is PO Box 459, Newport, TN 37822.
  • Election Day Polling place updates:
    • Voters who normally vote at Newport City Hall will temporarily vote at the West End Baptist Church Gym, 116 West End St., Newport, TN 37821, located behind the CO-OP.
    • Voting at the Newport Community Center (Central Precinct), 426 Cosby Hwy., Newport, TN 37821, will take place in the downstairs game room. Voters should use the new downstairs entrance facing Cosby Hwy., enter the lobby, go to the rear of the lobby, and take a right.
    • Bridgeport School voters: Jimtown Rd. at the collapsed railroad trestle and a section of Rock Hill Rd. near the French Broad River and Hwy. 321 intersection may be impassible on November 5.
      • Bridgeport School voters who would normally travel Jimtown Rd. to Hwy 25-70 to vote should instead take Hwy. 321 (North St.) into downtown Newport to access Hwy 25-70 to go to Bridgeport School.
      • Bridgeport School voters near the Oldtown community and areas near Hwy. 321 and Warford Rd. who may usually travel Rock Hill Rd. to vote at Bridgeport School should instead Hwy. 321 (North St.) into downtown Newport to access Hwy 25-70 to go to Bridgeport School.

Greene

  • All locations are expected to be open by Election Day. Voters are encouraged to monitor road conditions for possible closures.

Johnson

  • Access to the Trade Community Center polling place is limited. Election officials are monitoring the progress in repairing Highway 421 to determine if any adjustments will be needed. The Trade Community Center polling location is expected to be open. If this changes, notice will be widely distributed.

Unicoi

  • Election Day Voting at the Temple Hill Elementary School will occur at its normal location in the gym.

Washington

  • The office and all early voting and Election Day sites are operational.
