Yesterday’s report from the Senate Intelligence Committee on election interference is a reminder of the threats we face. We have and will continue to remain vigilant so Tennesseans can cast their votes with confidence.

My office works with county, state, federal, and other partners on a daily basis to monitor, test, and strengthen our systems, as well as providing training and resources for election officials across the state.

Coordinator of Election Mark Goins and I serve on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Election Infrastructure Government Coordinating Council, a small group of state and local election officials who assist and advise the federal government on the best ways to protect elections. We have both received clearances to obtain additional information regarding threats through classified security briefings.

Additional efforts have included but are not limited to the following actions that we can disclose without compromising the security of our systems:

• Weekly vulnerability scans from the Department of Homeland Security
• Vulnerability scans from independent contractors
• Mandatory two-factor authentication for access to the state voter registration database
• Upgraded cybersecurity and firewall protections
• Upgraded election night reporting security
• Albert sensor on state systems
• Participation in the Election Infrastructure Information Sharing and Analysis Center (EI-ISAC)
• Statewide tabletop exercise with election officials from all 95 counties
• Provided cybersecurity training for all Secretary of State staff and election officials in all 95 counties
• Coordination with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, and FBI to monitor Election Day activities
