About the Library & Archives

Tennessee Department of Conservation Photograph Collection, 1937-1976

While the Library & Archives is reopening to the public at its new location on April 13, 2021, we are operating at reduced capacity due to the pandemic. Please contact the reference desk at 615-741-2764 or ask@tsla.libanswers.com for the latest guidance on planning your research visit.

The Library Reading Room, the Microfilm Reading Room and Manuscripts at the Tennessee State Library and Archives are open Tuesday through Saturday 8 am - 4:30 pm (Central Time). Legislative History is open Tuesday through Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm (Central Time). The Library and Archives will always be closed on Mondays.

Please note: Archival materials are available for retrieval between the hours of 8 am – 12 pm and 1 pm – 4 pm. If you know you will need materials between 12 pm – 1 pm, please call ahead to the Public Services section at 615-741-2764 or visit the Ask Us a Question! web page.  We will do our best to accommodate your request.

The Library for Accessible Books and Media (LABM), which is located in the Tennessee State Library and Archives building, is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm (Central Time). It is strongly recommended that LABM patrons call ahead on Mondays since the rest of the building will be closed.

The Library & Archives is located at 1001 Rep. John Lewis Way North, immediately south of Jefferson Street. The State Museum is located just across Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park from the Library & Archives.
