What happens to mail sent to the substitute address?
The Safe at Home Program will receive all first class and certified mail sent to the substitute address and then forward that mail to the participant at their designated mailing address.

A: No. It is a felonyfor a non-US citizen to vote in a local, state, or federal race in Tennessee.

A: Under legislation passed in 2011, the Division of Elections verifies citizenship through a cross reference of our entire voter rolls with the information provided by the Department of Safety and Homeland Security to identify non-U.S. Citizens.

How do I apply?
The Office of the Secretary of State has developed an application form that must be used to apply for the program, which captures all required information and must be completed with the assistance of a Certified Application Assistant, who must also sign the application. The application must be submitted to the Safe at Home Program by a certified application assistant.
The General Assembly recently passed a bill I am interested in, where can I find this?
After bills are passed by the General Assembly, they are signed by both Speakers and the Governor. Our office is tasked with chaptering and posting these online.

The General Assembly passed a Private Act pertaining to my local government, how do I get a copy of this?
Once receiving a private act from the General Assembly, our office will mail a certified copy to the local governing body the act applies to. This will also include instructions on how to notify the Secretary of State of the outcome once voted on by the local government.
